22 years ago, Rashmi Anand walked away from a violent abusive marriage with 2 small children, a 9-year-old daughter who had become quiet and withdrawn, and a 5-year-old son who had stopped speaking completely from trauma. She came out without any financial support whatsoever.  Life has been a struggle every step of the way.  But Women are the Phoenixes of life, and even our tears have healing power. An Author, Counselor and Social Worker, she works today with the very issues that devastated the lives of her children and her – issues of Gender and Domestic Violence. Rashmi initiated a project with the West District of Delhi Police called “Bandhu” which works to cement relationships between Police and Community, most especially the marginalised – women, and children from lower income areas. This program is unusual for it works at internal awakening and fortification – of the police and the community – so as to build bridges and initiate closeness between them.
